Mid-January Reflections
We’re already in the middle of January, and as the year settles in, I’m feeling deeply thankful for a productive and creative 2025. The last couple of years have marked a meaningful shift for me—stepping back from teaching and returning my focus to my own art practice. It’s been grounding and energizing to give myself the time and space to make work with intention again.

One of my goals for 2025 was to participate in more pop-up events with my Seattle dive bar series, and I’m happy to say that really came to life. I added another neighborhood to the series, featuring six Columbia City venues. The response was incredibly positive, with great feedback and strong sales, and it reaffirmed how much people connect to these familiar, often overlooked gathering places.
This past year also brought new work inspired by the two months my husband and I spent living in Granada, Spain. It felt like a natural progression to paint our local favorite hangouts there—cafés, bars, and everyday places that quickly became part of our routine. We’ll be returning to Spain this year, and I plan to bring my Granada art prints with me to see how they’re received in the place that inspired them.
I’m continuing to show with Columbia City Gallery, with a feature exhibition each year, along with three group exhibitions. One of those is happening right now—the January show at Columbia City Gallery runs through January 25th. This is the gallery’s annual Secret Silent Auction, where all gallery artists participate with works of their choice and set their own minimum bids.

I have four pieces in this show, including a 30" x 22" acrylic on wood painting from 2006, The Meat Shop. It’s a piece I’ve loved for many years, but I’m ready for it to find a new forever home. The starting bid is honestly a steal at $200, and it feels like the right moment to let it move on to its next chapter.

As the year unfolds, I’m grateful for the balance of travel, community, and sustained studio time—and excited to see where it all leads next.
