My City’s Filthy – Seattle Watercolors at Bumbershoot 2025

I’m excited to share that two of my Seattle watercolors will be part of My City’s Filthy, a curated exhibition by Vanishing Seattle at A/NT Gallery during Bumbershoot 2025, August 30–31.

The two paintings included are Edith Macefield House and Ballard Smoke Shop. Out of more than 25 watercolors in this series, these are the only two (along with one other) original works that remain.

Edith Macefield House 6×6 original watercolor

Edith Macefield House holds a special place in this series. I actually painted this one twice—this is the first version, which I chose not to reproduce. The second version introduces an older woman walking a dog and exiting the composition, while this one stays true to the photograph I had originally taken. No reproductions will ever be made of this version!

Ballard Smoke Shop 6×8 original watercolor

Ballard Smoke Shop was one of the very first pieces in my dive bar series. I painted it after a walk through Ballard on a sunny fall morning, when the autumn leaves glowed against an almost empty street. A few parked cars partially blocked the view, but I loved the way the scene still captured the character and quiet charm of the neighborhood.

The rest of the series has found homes with collectors, but I do have giclée reproductions available of the entire collection.
